Fake Drivers, Real Guns: How Amazon Shipments Were Hijacked

Federal authorities have dismantled a violent network of rival Armenian crime syndicates accused of stealing Amazon cargo worth more than $83 million, alongside charges of attempted murder, kidnapping, and fraud.

On May 20, 13 individuals linked to competing Armenian “avtoritet” (underworld authority) groups were arrested in a multi-state crackdown. The arrests spanned California and Florida and targeted long-running organized crime factions operating from the San Fernando Valley.

The syndicates are accused of running a sophisticated theft scheme, posing as legitimate Amazon carriers to intercept shipments before they reached distribution centers or customers. These fictitious pickups allowed the groups to reroute high-value cargo and sell it through illicit channels, severely impacting Amazon’s logistics chain.

In addition to the theft ring, the investigation uncovered a violent power struggle between leaders Ara Artuni and Robert Amiryan. Artuni allegedly ordered a failed hit on Amiryan in 2023, which led to a retaliatory kidnapping attempt later that year. The feud added layers of violence and intimidation to an already complex fraud case.

During the coordinated raids, law enforcement recovered over $100,000 in cash, 14 firearms, and three armored vehicles. One suspect remains at large, and court proceedings are underway in Los Angeles and Fort Lauderdale. Watch clip
