Masa Son Pitches $1 Trillion AI Manufacturing Hub

SoftBank founder Masayoshi Son has unveiled an audacious plan to create a $1 trillion artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics manufacturing hub in the United States. Dubbed “Project Crystal Land,” the initiative aims to transform the U.S. into the global epicenter for producing AI chips, data centers, and robotics hardware.

Speaking at the SoftBank World event, Son urged global tech companies to collaborate on what he calls a “manufacturing revolution,” positioning the U.S. as a secure and innovation-rich base for AI infrastructure. The proposal aligns with rising geopolitical concerns about overreliance on China and Taiwan for advanced semiconductors.

A key player potentially involved is Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC). According to multiple reports, SoftBank has approached TSMC to participate in the project. With TSMC already investing over $160 billion into its Arizona chip plants—and beginning mass production in 2025—the company is well-positioned to anchor the manufacturing capacity needed for Son’s AI ambitions.

Son has also reached out to other major players like Samsung Electronics, with backing likely required from both private investors and the U.S. government. The pitch also comes as SoftBank shifts from defensive posturing to aggressive AI investments, particularly through its ownership stake in Arm.

If successful, the hub would not only localize critical AI supply chains but also drive massive job creation and infrastructure investment within the U.S. It would represent one of the largest industrial initiatives of the AI era—redefining trade dynamics and global tech power centers.

Son’s trillion-dollar vision may seem bold, but history suggests he’s no stranger to long bets on the future. Watch Clip
