Dark‑fleet tanker ADALYNN collides near Strait of Hormuz

June 17, 2025, the crude oil tanker Adalynn collided with the Liberian-flagged Front Eagle approximately 24 nautical miles east of Fujairah, near the Strait of Hormuz. The collision caused a fire on board Adalynn, prompting a response from the UAE Coast Guard. All 24 crew members aboard the two vessels were safely evacuated, and no injuries were reported.

Adalynn, registered in Antigua and Barbuda, is understood to be part of a ā€œdark fleetā€ā€”a group of tankers that operate outside mainstream tracking systems and are often used to move oil in violation of international sanctions. At the time of the incident, Adalynn was sailing in ballast, reportedly en route to the Suez Canal. Front Eagle was transporting approximately two million barrels of Iraqi crude oil bound for China.

While officials have described the collision as the result of a navigational error, the incident occurred during a period of heightened GPS interference in the region. Multiple commercial vessels have reported signal spoofing and jamming, particularly near key maritime locations along the Iranian coast, including Bandar Abbas.

The Strait of Hormuz is a critical global trade route, with nearly 20 million barrels of oil passing through daily. Following the incident, maritime authorities have issued advisories urging vessels to rely on radar and visual navigation in areas affected by signal disruption. See Clip.
